Dramatis Personae

Welcome to Hedgerow Hill, where the wine flows freely, the tomatoes blush for good reason, and the only thing louder than the arguments are the declarations of love. This is not a traditional family. It’s a patchwork of chaos, compassion, and consent built by choice, hard work, and a sprinkle of magic.

If you’ve just stepped into this world for the first time, here’s a quick guide to the thoroughly lovable crew that made Foxi’s Midsummer story possible. And if you’ve been around the block a few times with us already, consider this your refresher course in familial mischief.

The Spoonie Sisters

Felicia “Foxy” Myrén-Wallin: Our narrator, also known as Foxi French, is the glamorous queen of fantasy and transformation at Paradise Hotel. She’s Anna’s wife and former carer, and Finn’s mother. Foxy lives with PTSD and depression.

Anna Wallin: Music producer and the sharpest wit in the courtyard. Foxi’s wife, love of her life, and the woman who first gave her a reason to stay. Anna developed Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) as a child following a severe viral infection and lives with multiple comorbidities.

Linn “Pet” Lundahl: Editor, professional reader, and occasional brat. One half of a complicated working D/s dynamic with Maddox. Linn is neurodivergent and has a degenerative disease with a slew of comorbidities.

Gianna Ranieri: Italian firecracker with a head for business and a heart like a biscotti soaked in limoncello. Married to Joe. Gianna was first diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and later with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME).

Stephanie “Steph” Collins: Former academic turned knicker-merchant and feminist firebrand. Her commentary stings but it usually comes from a place of love. Or stress. Steph lives with General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and often worries that she hasn’t ‘earned’ the right to call herself a spoonie.

The Extended Family

Maddox Rhinehart: Romance author, lover of food, wine, words, and Linn. Equal parts protector and provocateur, he may be the only man in the world who can hold his own at the Spoonie table.

Destiny & Divine: The drag queens who became Foxy’s fairy godmothers and a treasured part of the family. Only Foxy and Anna know their full names.

Oberon: The fairy king to Foxy’s Titania. We’ll be seeing more of him.

Joe Lawrence: Gianna’s husband who was away on a business trip this Midsummer. He’ll be back (and he’s a keeper).

Elfin “Finn” Wallin: Foxy and Anna’s daughter. She’s only 10 and a quiet presence in this story, but she’ll have her own stories to tell. Eventually.

Extras

Tant Stina Wallin: Anna’s great-grandmother and Foxy’s guardian angel. She doesn’t appear in the book, but her presence is always felt.

Alice & John Roberts: Anna’s estranged parents. One deceased, one… well, that’s a story for another time.
